当地时间5月21日，美国驻丹麦大使肯尼思·豪韦里在格陵兰岛首府努克新美国领事馆开幕仪式上发表的讲话，称美国总统特朗普已排除对格陵兰岛使用武力的可能性。格陵兰岛的未来必须由格陵兰人民自己决定。

特朗普2025年重返白宫以来多次扬言要得到格陵兰岛，并声称不排除动用武力。据悉，美国、丹麦和格陵兰岛已成立三方工作组，商讨美国在北极地区的安全关切。按丹麦首相梅特·弗雷泽里克森的说法，工作组“尝试寻找解决方案”的同时，不会逾越丹麦划定的“红线”。
