50年前的4月1日 ，日本对延续几百年历史的卖淫活动禁令正式生效。“卖淫防治法”取缔了世界上最古老的行业，虽然它长期以来一直是日本最有利可图的行业之一。
但是这项法律充满了漏洞，即使在今天性服务业仍然是日本最大的行业之一。
日本在第二次世界大战战败后，开始了最早取缔卖淫活动的斗争，刚获得解放的女性国会议员成为斗争的先锋队。经过1945年-1952年被占领期间和1952年重获独立后的多次立法尝试，“卖淫防治法”终于在当年的国会上获得通过。
禁令延迟到1958年四月生效，好让从业人员寻找新的工作机会或者进入政府开办的康复中心（这里人们的生活成本非常的低，甚至比日本市政府支付给等待安乐死的狗的餐费还要低）。
今天价值几万亿日元的生意让这一法令遭受颇多指责，而这一法令也被戏指恰好是在愚人节通过的
