据报道，当局在墨西哥城一个军事基地举行了武器销毁工作的启动仪式。将被销毁的这些武器已在政府仓库内保存多年。

墨国防部说，自２００６年底总统费利佩·卡尔德龙执政以来，军方已收缴武器３．５万多件。这些武器将继续保存，因为它们仍是犯罪调查的证据。

墨西哥方面说，卡尔德龙执政以来，已有１．１万多人死于贩毒团伙的枪支暴力犯罪，这些枪支大部分来自美国。
